Hello! ✦
I’m Viet-My Bui (Vyet-Mee), a Vietnamese-Australian artist and illustrator living on Wurundjeri land. My art practice focuses on character-driven imagery, rendered organic lines and a sense of movement. The works capture the fantastical and feminine in luminous hues. Taking inspiration from anime, video games and animations from my early childhood, my paintings take on an illustrative, almost graphic quality. Through my characters, I explore themes of girlhood, becoming, magic, and self-discovery. After creating digital artworks for over 2 decades, I began teaching myself how to paint using acrylic gouache in 2020. It is now the foundation of the current iteration of my practice.
Let’s Work Together
I am available for commissions and freelance work, for projects large and small. I am especially interested in themes of community, inclusivity, BIPOC narratives, mental health and slow fashion. Please get in touch!
